Controller and contact

The controller responsible for DZC (Direct Zone Connect), dzclauncher.com, and api.dzclauncher.com is:

Sven Maier
Riedgasse 15
6850 Dornbirn
Austria
Email: sven.maier15@icloud.com

What the launcher keeps on your device

DZC launchers store settings, player/profile information where applicable, favourites, recent servers, catalogue cache, and launcher logs locally. Isolated Windows variants use game-specific data folders such as %LocalAppData%\DZCLauncher.DayZ and %LocalAppData%\DZCLauncher.Arma3; legacy/current-transition builds can use %LocalAppData%\DayZPlatform. These files remain on your device until you remove them or uninstall and clear the application data. DZC does not require a DZC account, and it does not upload these local files automatically.

A diagnostic export is created locally only when you request it. Review the archive before sharing it. It excludes launcher settings, player name, cached servers, and credentials, but can contain system information, detected game paths, process state, and recent launcher log entries.

Website and API requests

The website and API receive the IP address, request path, timestamp, user agent, and related technical connection information needed to deliver and secure the service. Technical access logs are retained for no more than 30 days.

DZC also records anonymous first-party usage events so we can see how the public website and launcher are found and used. These events can include the page path, referring site host, optional campaign parameters from the address bar, approximate device class (desktop, mobile, or tablet), operating system family, browser family, country, region, and city. IP addresses are used only in memory to look up that location, then discarded. Raw user agents, cookies, advertising identifiers, Steam accounts, and names are not stored with these events. DZC does not use advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking cookies.

Website events are page views and download-button clicks. When a DZC launcher first reaches the platform API after install, it can send one install event with the launcher variant, version, and operating-system family. That ping is stored as a local marker on your device so it is sent at most once. Usage events are deleted after 90 days.

Reports, claims, and catalogue contributions

A server report can include an optional contact value and free-text details. Open reports are kept while they are reviewed and are deleted 12 months after resolution. An ownership claim is submitted after Discord sign-in and includes the Discord user ID, username, display name, selected listings, and submitted evidence. A first-party session cookie is stored on the API host for seven days or until you sign out. After you submit, the DZC Discord bot may send a confirmation direct message. Claim login installs the DZCLauncher app on your Discord account for that purpose (you can remove it in Discord settings). The message does not include your evidence. Discord may still block the message if you disable DMs from apps. Pending claims are kept while they are reviewed and are deleted 24 months after approval or rejection. Do not include unrelated personal or sensitive information in free-text fields.

Server submissions and catalogue records contain server addresses, names, descriptions, public configuration, player counts, and Workshop information obtained from submissions or public server-discovery and query interfaces. This information normally describes game servers rather than player accounts. Public server information can remain in the catalogue while the server is listed. Administrative audit records are deleted after 24 months.

Steam, Discord, Microsoft Store, Proton, and game servers

  • Steam ownership verification is performed through the locally running Steam client. DZC servers do not receive your Steam account identifier or ownership result; the launcher can record a generic success or failure in its local log. Workshop subscriptions and downloads are handled by Steam or SteamCMD under Valve's privacy agreement.
  • Discord Rich Presence in the launcher is optional and disabled until you enable it. When enabled, the launcher sends browsing or playing activity, server details, party information, and Join data to the Discord desktop client. You can withdraw permission by disabling it in Settings. Claiming a listed server is a separate Discord sign-in so we can associate the same operator across listings. That flow receives your Discord user ID, username, and display name, and installs the DZCLauncher Discord app so a confirmation message can be sent. Discord processes this information under its privacy policy.
  • Microsoft processes Store installation, licensing, and update information independently under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Directly downloaded DZC distributions can instead contact the DZC API for update information where launcher-managed updates are used.
  • DayZ on Linux is a Proton target. Steam/Proton can process local compatibility data and game runtime information according to Valve's own software and privacy terms; DZC does not operate Proton.
  • When you join a DayZ or Arma 3 server, your network address, player/game information, and game traffic are sent directly to the selected independent server operator. That operator's location and privacy practices are outside DZC's control.

Purposes and legal bases

Technical request information and anonymous first-party usage events are processed under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for the legitimate interests of providing, securing, diagnosing, understanding public demand for, and preventing abuse of the service. Reports, claims, and correspondence are processed under Article 6(1)(f) for the legitimate interests of maintaining an accurate and safe catalogue and responding to requests. Optional Discord Rich Presence in the launcher, and Discord sign-in for ownership claims, are activated only with your consent under Article 6(1)(a), which you can withdraw at any time. Data can also be retained where Article 6(1)(c) requires compliance with a legal obligation.

Hosting, recipients, and transfers

Production systems are hosted for the controller by Hetzner Online GmbH in Helsinki, Finland. Hetzner acts as a processor and production data remains in the EU for this hosting location. No local or off-site backup copies are currently maintained. Access is limited to authorised administration, transport uses HTTPS, and administrative access is protected by authentication and network restrictions.

Privacy requests sent by email are also processed by Apple's iCloud email service. Steam, Discord, Microsoft, Apple, and independent game-server operators act under their own terms and may process information outside the EEA using the safeguards described in their policies. DZC does not sell personal information.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Send a request to sven.maier15@icloud.com. Additional information may be requested to verify your identity. Requests are answered without undue delay and normally within one month.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, Austria, email dsb@dsb.gv.at.

Children and policy changes

DZC is a companion utility for mature-rated third-party games and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly request children's personal information. This policy will be updated before materially different data uses are introduced, and the date above will change when it is revised.

Instructions for clearing local launcher data are available on the Help page.
